The Coffee Bean 4 Kids Campaign

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf may not be “Indie,” but their holiday campaign with The Help Group, a nonprofit school serving children with various special needs*, certainly is!

$1 from every purchase of these items goes directly to help the many programs available at The Help Group. There are so many, it’s hard to keep track, but something for everyone.

Stay Then Go [Funding Fridays]

Stay Then Go is the story of the sacrifices one mother must make in order for her autistic son to live a productive and dignified life.

STAY THEN GO will bring some light to these issues by way of a story- of a mother and her son. And not with statistics, expert talking heads, or case studies. Through, the power of art, and story-telling, we’d like to connect, to entertain, to puncture consciousness, and to move humanity along, just a little.

Support their Kickstarter – only 7 days to go!

Special Needs Transition: podcast

I work with The Help Group to increase their outreach online. One of their programs, Advance LA, is relatively new with many social skills events and transitional efforts for the young adults and parents alike.

I first met Gloria Perez-Walker through Art Meza of the Cypress Park Library, all on Twitter. She’s a wonderful, honest spirit who uses her own experiences to aid parents navigating the autism world. A few weeks ago I answered a tweet where she asked about after school programs, and connected her to Dr. Amy Griffiths, Director of Advance LA.

They had a great interview, and it’s interesting to know what’s out there even if you don’t need the services.

By the way, is it incredibly cool that part of my job is to attend their Halloween events and tweet about them? I think it is.
